White-nosed coati among the forest vegetation
Field trip 01 / 01

Chipinque

Sierra Madre Oriental, Mexico

April 2021

Field notes

I went to Chipinque on two mornings of one weekend, for the final project of the photography course I was taking while on exchange in Monterrey. I lived fifteen minutes from the park and had already been a few times, so I knew I'd come across some animal.

What I wasn't expecting was to run into a bear. I knew there were bears in the area, but I'd never seen one, and on top of that I was on my own this time. Honestly, I wish I'd taken more photos, but I didn't dare get the camera out until it had moved off.

I was a bit scared, I won't deny it, but it's one of the best experiences I've had in that park, and I remember it fondly.
